Thin and delicate-looking, her wrist seemed dead, blued by the cast of the moon directly overhead. Wonderingly, he stared at the woman he thought lost but was not, haunted by a momentary disbelief at what had passed, supposed to have passed, at the actuality of her very presence. Kaoru stirred under his gaze; her smile was slow to bloom upon her face, shyly lingering before gaining more confidence, more of the sense of... the appropriateness of this all.
Enishi’s Jinchuu was not an exorcism, but it set some things aright, allowed his fractured pieces to gravitate to a semblance of a whole. Fate rewarded sparsely, but he recognized her generosity when it came, and he embraced it.
Satisfied, he smiled back at his wife and offered his hand. This she took, and together they retreated into the room that was now theirs.
