One of the things being a Slayer had taught her was that there wasn't always a logical explanation as to why things happen. She survived each night by following her instinct, she had to or else she would be dead.

Of course logic and research had its uses; why should she go up against a big bad totally unprepared if she didn't have to? Reason stated that she should first try researching ways to kill unknown demons before just throwing caution to the wind. The downside to that was that there wasn’t always enough time, to try searching for ways to kill every unknown demon she might come across; not to mention that there where times when she either couldn’t find enough information for it to be useful, or the information found proved to be wrong. So perhaps the most effective thing to do was to combine reason and instinct, but not be held back by so called logic.

In this case, her instinct told her something was wrong, while pure reason stated that she should trust Giles. Eventually, Buffy did what she thought was best, she followed her instinct; she was a Slayer, which meant that logic wasn't the thing most likely to save her.

A bit of snooping proved her instinct to be correct; her Watcher had betrayed her, had been drugging her, and was planning to send her on some ‘test’ that was likely to kill her. That knowledge hurt more than Buffy had thought possible, but there wasn’t much time to dwell on it as she didn’t plan on sticking around to be led to her death, instead she did what she thought she needed to do, she ran.

There wasn’t even any guilt mixed in with her choice, she didn’t feel as if she was abandoning her destiny because there was already another Slayer that could take care of the Hellmouth. Of course, there were times when she missed her friends or wished that she had done something different, but for the most part she didn’t regret her choice. In truth she often took comfort in the knowledge that when she died another Slayer wouldn’t be called since the line no longer flowed through her. She could stay hidden for years and no one would ever know if she was still alive or dead.
