Although wealthy and powerful, the silver-haired fairy was a very easily bored creature, always requiring some new amusement or other. Nothing could delight him for long, but when something caught his fancy, he set his heart utterly upon gaining it, refusing to quit until he was entirely satisfied. Clever and beautiful, Emma Wintertowne seemed perfect. He would not rest until she was his. On this point his mind was made up, and so he craftily bargained with the magician for his pretty little plaything. By his pale hand, she left her life on Monday, and did not return for years.
