[January 1, 2005] [Original] Consider My Proposal
Title: Consider My Proposal
Day/Theme: Jan. 1 Don't go (girls & boys)
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Koharu, Hadrian, Caspian
These were the only characters I could think of to apply to this at the time. But I wanted to get a start here today. To describe the characters in short I would say: a warrior maiden, the emperor of Laurelann, and young mage. Protagonists of one of many tales concerning 'the continent.'
Rating: G
~I've been watching the community for a few weeks and I tried writing to some of the December themes. I thought I should join if I'm going to consider the topics anyway. I heard about this community through Myaru. Thanks Myaru!~
"Goodbye Hadrian," blue-eyed Caspian whispered, a wistful look in his eyes as he thought of home. The thin, black-haired girl beside him did not say anything as she gazed at the man they left behind.
"Take care, Caspian," Hadrian smiled, "And you too, Koharu."
Koharu and Caspian turned and began to walk away, down the marble steps of the palace, towards the city. The sun was slowly starting to set over the gray towers of the Laurelannian capital. Koharu's feelings were mixed as she left. She was somewhat surprised that Hadrian did not have anything else to say to her. He was usually more long-winded than this, and quite sentimental. It seemed a rather anticlimactic end to a series of events that had rocked the continent. Caspian, however, had no regrets. He had done all he could to fight with honor and integrity. He had not always been pleased with the behavior of his male companion on the road, but he had come to understand, and even sort of like, Hadrian. When he returned home, he hoped to keep in touch with the haughty red head.
The two had spent several months in the company of Emperor Paul-Joseph Hadrian IV, but the war was won and there was no longer anything tying them to Laurelann. Hadrian stared at them, open-mouthed as they left. They had not even seen fit to tell him where they were going. Were they not comrades? Had they not struggled together as allies in the efforts to unite the Cosar Federation and battle back the forces of Daizaille?
He flung his purple cape back over his shoulder and yelled at the pair angrily, "Don't go! I command you to stop where you stand! Especially you, Koharu! What kind of girl are you? Don't you realize that I love you?!" He pointed at them as though they were disobedient servants. His bright eyes flared with indignation, until their wide-eyed stares bored so deeply into him, he was forced to blush slightly.
Koharu took a step closer to him, bracelets jangling as she moved her arms, "Hadrian?"
"Koharu..." he muttered moodily, lowering his voice so as not to attract any further attention from the guards at the gate who had raised their visors to take a better look at the girl their emperor was so enamored with, "Do you remember when I told you that I was a lucky man to have met my match in such a lovely lady?"
"Yes," she replied cautiously.
Caspian scuffed his sandal-clad feet on the ground uncomfortably. He should have known this was coming. Part of him wished it had not. He was not without his own delicate feelings for the ponytailed girl.
"From that day forward, I have had a certain swelling of emotion considering you...I have come to love you very much. Please marry me. At least consider it." As he spoke, he walked down to her, in the slow, dignified manner he always used when meeting with fellow heads of state, or doing something else particularly seriously.
Their eyes met and they stood there upon the steps for a long while. Caspian's own thoughts swirled about him in a maelstrom of confusion. Should he say anything? What was going to happen? Koharu had confided in him before that although she often laughed at Hadrian's outrageous behavior, she really did like and admire him. Would that translate into a desire to stay with the young emperor?
"I'll...have to think about that," she said at long last.
It seemed then as though Hadrian had been holding his breath the entire time, for he let out one long sigh. It exuded both relief and concern. Was this a negative or positive answer? It was not exactly what he had hoped to hear, but would it do?
"If you don't mind, Caspian," Koharu spoke again, her voice a bit shaky, "Do you think we could stay here with Hadrian a while longer? I need some time."
Caspian was startled from the depths of his mind, and he nearly jumped as he squeaked out in reply, "Oh, yes! That would be fine! Take all the time you need!"
The ebony-haired girl smiled at the scrawny mage and Hadrian spun around quickly, long hair and cape flying, and rushed back into the palace ahead of them. He could not let a girl like that go so easily. He was glad he had been brave enough to call out. ...Now, all he could do was hope.
~I hope that was okay. Hopefully I'll be able to get online to post tomorrow...I like the theme.
