"You're amusing," Perez smiles, teasing with a gleam that only Strahm sees.
Among these strangers, in an office not theirs, they get each other's cues and jokes and meanings. Perez knows what he means when he tugs her away from that Lieutenant or whoever, Mark Hoffman—and it makes her smile contently.
He glares at her.
"I'm serious." Strahm sighs, rolling a hand through his hair. "Hoffman's off. Don't want you near the fucker. He could be dangerous."
She sighs too, but nods her head. Whether it's jealousy or instinct, Perez trusts him because she always has; their years spent together twined their trust deep and true, and he's her partner. She trusts him because Strahm never gave her a reason not to, and under her skin, deep down, she feels like a trapped animal around Hoffman, something in her gut curling like she's a bunny in a viper's eye. It gets better when she's behind Strahm, behind his width, his glare, his wide shoulders and dark eyes, though she'd never admit either of her own volition.
"Yeah, I was feeling the same." Perez softly admits, placing a hand on his shoulder.
