[3-Sep-2022][Top Gun Maverick (2022)] Timber
Title: Timber
Date/Prompt: "potato pc"/09-3-22
Fandom: Top Gun Maverick (2022)
Character: Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw/Jake "Hangman" Seresin
Ratings/Warning: pg, wc 136
It's not that fucked up to say, prospectively. Jake isn't trying to justify his lack of connection with Maverick; his psuedo-death was honestly sad, but the contact with Rooster's Hornet fucked him up differently.
Rooster going down meant a whole lot more than Maverick. Hangman nearly disobeyed orders. Nearly flew in zone. But he can't.
Hangman sees why people do it, now. Do what doesn't make sense, throw their whole careers away on whims and wheeling. Jake sees shit shake in his mind, and the cocky attitude's off because he's seeing more into himself than he wants.
The connection drops out for a minute, more than that—and for a moment there, it's nothing. No Rooster. The adrenaline, the panic, the urge to just pull the gear..
It nearly beats out but the "They're up." comes first.
