Kazahaya had never been a pleasant patient.
“I’m not sick,” he protested as Rikuou carried him to his bed. His breaths were short and coming quickly. “Bastard!” he snarled as the other boy dropped him unceremoniously on the covers and “I’m fine, stop smirking, you asshole” when he offered to tuck him in. A suggestion that Rikuou should help him undress provoked an entire angry tirade which was only halted by a calm inquiry.
“Would you like something to eat?”
“No,” Kazahaya grumbled. “I’m only stuck in a bed all day without anyone to talk to and I’m probably not even going to get paid and my life sucks. Why would I want food?”
“No food, then,” Rikuou noted with an utterly straight face and he gave no attention to Kazahaya’s indignant squawk. “Lie down, I’ll tell Kakei you’re sick.”
“I’m not sick,” Kazahaya argued, wincing at his own voice. Rikuou looked at him with a sceptical eye. “I’m not,” he repeated plaintively.
“…Whatever.”
“I’m fine,” Kazahaya said as the door closed behind Rikuou. He yawned widely. This was all Rikuou’s fault, damnit! He’d woken Kazahaya up at some unholy hour and now he was claiming Kazahaya was ill when he was just a bit tired and so what if Kazahaya was? He couldn’t just take a day off! He’d wait until Kakei came in and explain. Yeah. Just a couple of minutes…

“Here,” said Rikuou. Kazahaya blinked slowly and sat up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. Rikuou was carrying a tray which he laid carefully across Kazahaya’s knees.
“I wasn’t asleep,” Kazahaya felt the need to inform him.
“Of course you weren’t.” Rikuou wasn’t quite rolling his eyes, but Kazahaya felt the rage bubble up inside him anyway.
“I wasn’t – ” he began, but Rikuou caught his wrist as he raised it to punch that – that guy and, humiliating, grabbed the other as well with the same hand. He wasn’t that skinny, damnit.
“You’ll spill the soup,” Rikuou pointed out and Kazahaya looked down at the steaming tray, only now noticing its contents. His fury blossomed into joy. He grinned up at Rikuou, who released his wrists with a long-suffering sigh, and dug in happily.

“Are you feeling better now?” Kakei inquired, laying a cool hand on Kazahaya’s brow. He felt his face redden and pulled away quickly.
“I’m fine!”
“Ah, good.” Kakei smiled, his hair falling over his eye. “I’m glad. You’ll be up and about tomorrow, then?”
Kazahaya bit his lip. “Um.”
“Because I have a very special job…” and Kazahaya was nodding before Kakei had even finished his sentence.
“Excellent! Oh, the medicine Rikuou gave you will be taken out of your paycheck, of course.”
“Of course,” Kazahaya said dizzily, then, “What?”
“I’ll see you in the morning.” Kakei smiled again and drifted out, followed by a grinning Saiga who Kazahaya hadn’t even noticed.
He was going to kill Rikuou.
