"Oh, me too," Kanae said, smiling as the little plain-colored ball rolled to a stop. A consolation prize for her, as well.
"They're good coupons," Hina replied once Kanae accepted hers. Kanae nodded. They were, and she couldn't remember if she'd ever won anything above the smallest of prizes from a shopping center lotto. The little goodies and coupons were still something.
"What flavor are you going to get?" Kanae asked. She reached for Hina's hand without thinking and held it until they'd reached the ice cream counter.
Hina pretended to debate but then went with strawberry.
Kanae did too.
