Title: Powerful Lessons You Gradually Learn
Day/Prompt: 1-February-2022
Fandom: YuYu Hakusho
Character/Pairing: Kuwabara/Hiei
Rating/Warning(s): Teen for content.
It’s not Hiei’s first time; he’s had exchanges, transactions involving his body because it means nothing to him, meant nothing to him, and it was the means to an end. He’s damn certain he doesn’t care, because if he did, he doesn’t know what that would mean—
or what it would mean that Kuwabara is right: it’s weighted on him all along, all the letting people take pieces of himself for currency and information, hiding emotions deep down to avoid processing the facts at all. Hiei won’t say Kuwabara is wrong if he really believes he’s right.
What he will do is stare at the hands that circle his waist, all too gentle for someone as scared and ruly as Hiei. It makes him feel dwarfed and tiny. He hates how genuine and intimate it is. Hiei hates how nervous he feels, how strong the emotions are because Kuwabara has gently kissed him to his chest and laid a kiss upon his heart.
“Don’t treat me like a doll, you oaf.” Hiei scoffs, turning in on himself.
It comes out more like a murmur.
“Well—!” Kuwabara retorts. His voice rises, rasps, “I ain’t gonna treat you like shit.”
Kuwabara turns his head, cheeks lighting up as he tries keeping himself from blushing. He mumbles, “Jus’ treating you how you need to be treated.” and Hiei doesn’t know what do with this. Doesn’t know what to do with the memories of years past that linger like a foul odor, lingering with stay of an elephant’s memory.
Hiei doesn’t know what to do now because it was never a problem before. These things do linger, but phantoms of the past won’t change Kuwabara’s human nature. These emotions could stop, if Hiei really wanted. If he wanted, he could leave. But the past is still there, even if it matters no longer, and Kuwabara is here.
Kuwabara is kissing hearts around Hiei’s frozen one. He’s waiting for him to step back into reality.
As he returns, Hiei makes a hum of a noise.
The ginger gives a faint smile.
“Thank you.”
