[n]otes: Okay, a while back, The Foursome of Awesomeness And Assorted Awesome People got into this big discussion about the significance of the Cerberus, the possibility that Vincent was Cerberus vs. the possibility that Vincent was Hades. Then we decided that Project G was Orpheus, so who were Eurydice, Persephone and Demeter?
He found her sitting outside, watching the sunset. She held half of... something in her hands.
She had stained her hands red from the tips of her fingers to her palms, to the back of her hands.
In the reddish, fading light, those stains looked like blood.
His ninja, with blood on her hands.
"I'm going with you," she said, quietly. "Don't think you can stop me."
She sounded so serious, and Chaos thought of something trapped, trapped, trapped, in something that was too much for her. Something too deep and too tall and too dark and too bloody.
Trapped in HIS fight, trapped in HIS sin, trapped in... Trapped in him.
She offered him the half that had sat beside her.
"I can't eat it all myself. Reeve gave it to me. Can't eat more than half of anything he gives me, ever. It's always too much, you know?"
Vincent took the half of the pomegranate, his fingers brushing against hers.
She smiled him.
That smile... He loved it. He wanted her to do it more often. He wanted to lean over and lick the tart red juices from her lips, from her chin.
Was that Galian? Or was that him?
Their needs, their desires, their voices, all merged together into one single, thrumming hum in the back of his mind. One note, one voice, like the thread Atropos cut. Ever-present, ever-honest. He sometimes couldn't tell them from him and it frightened him because he really WAS becoming less human.
And he took the half of the pomegranate and smiled back, for just a little while, because she deserved a smile.
He manoeuvred his claw-fingers to drop seeds into his mouth and twined, for just a little while, his hand in hers.
Trapped, hissed Chaos, while Galian roared that she was theirs, theirs, theirs.
She was going with him, she was his, and she was trapped, and there was no escape.
And he wanted so desperately to kiss her, but she would not have allowed it because this was Nibelheim, this was her hated place, and he had brought her here.
He didn't finish the half of the pomegranate, but he went back inside, anyway.
She would join him soon.
An Explanation of the Mythology Involved
Everybody knows the Persesphone Myth, right? Why We Have Spring? Well, this is a slightly different version of the myth, can't remember which book I read it in. It was a long time ago.
Anyway, so, Hades kidnaps Persephone, and only Helios sees. Hades takes Persephone to the Underworld and sets her down. She goes wandering off, into Elysium (the Elysium Fields, the dwelling of dead heroes and their spouses). She eventually meets somebody (who the other person is isn't important. The important thing is that Hades isn't the one to give her the pomegranate) who gives her a pomegranate. She eats half of the seeds. When Helios tells Zeus what's happened and Demeter makes her plea, Zeus decides that Persephone must remain in Hades for half the year and can live on Olympus for the other half.
Soooo, in the fic...
Nibelheim = Hades/Elyrium (they're all part of the same realm)
Pomegranate = a share in the trouble (Reeve, Vincent and Yuffie are now bound together in this endeavour)
Vincent = Hades
Yuffie = Persephone
Reeve = the giver of the pomegranate (he initiated the contact, after all)
