“So,” Rossi leaned over, eyebrows raised, “how’s married life treating you, Aaron?”
Hotch looked left, then right. Derek was off with Penelope, talking about the blonde’s latest male escapade as Reid drowned himself in Everfree—unsurprisingly heavyweight, at least in Aaron’s opinion— and Emily’s shoulder. Last he saw of Derek, about ten minutes ago, he was more inebriated than he ought to be, but the man wasn’t blackout drunk.
He didn’t see his husband. And well, it didn’t hurt to divulge a little to his closest friend throughout the years. Even if he didn’t, Rossi would see the whole picture anyway, so it didn’t hurt to make the job easier.
“Good,” Hotch grinned, “The biggest problem so far is keeping me from shaving. And fed.”
At that, Rossi chuckled.
“Keeping you?” He said, “My second wife wanted me stuck in our little bathroom, razor in hand 24/7.”
Hotch merely shrugged and replied, “Apparently, the beard makes me twice as attractive.”
Rossi looked him up, then down.
“It flatters you, Aa—“
“Handsome, can I get your number?”
A strong arm slung over his shoulder, and alcohol-heavy breath ghosted over his neck, a weight slumping against him. He tensed, for a moment, then the familiarity hit him like a bullet. Aaron proceeded to process the sentence as he instinctively relaxed into the familiar touch.
“Sugar,” Penelope broke through, “That’s your husband. You’ve been married for six months.”
“Huh? Is he?” Derek chewed his lips, glancing at Aaron before a soft flush took his features. “This is my husband? Aaron, are you—wait, how do I know your name is Aaron?”
“Because we’ve been married for six months, Derek.” Hotch smoothly replied.
It only made Derek more concentrated, staring ahead at something the rest couldn’t see as he wrapped his head around the situation. Penelope gazed at him, lips forming a smug smirk as she watched his mind jump through hoops and run through cogs and chains.
“But you’re my husband?” Derek asked, more to himself than anyone, “Man, I must’ve done good in life to get you.”
Aaron was about to cut in and say the opposite: he must've done good and pious to get someone as amazing as Derek, but Rossi coughed, dragging everyone’s attention to him.
“I can see it’s going well for you,” He winked, elbowing Hotch with a content smile.
Derek furrowed his brows, looking between them with a pouting, perplexed expression. Then, in unison, Hotch and Rossi broke into laughter.
