Title: Feeling

The evening before, in his lonesome, Sakon stood on tiptoe and looked up at a cherry tree; feeling as though he'd never really seen it until that moment. He'd seen plenty, but then seeing was different from truly knowing the branches, fondling them between his fingers, and being able to roll a deep red cherry between his thumb and forefinger.
Seeing was always different than feeling. Pondering the what-ifs, the few years resting between him and Zenkichi as if it were the space it'd take to bridge the distance between their lips, had always carried a different heaviness, as if the thought was right or something. Imagining Zenkichi reminded him of a pink tongue drawing around the cherry, slow, slow; Zenkichi had always drawn his mind into red spaces and thoughts of dark lips.
The day of, in Zenkichi's company, he pondered his what-ifs again, leaned forward, and closed his eyes.
Seeing was different than feeling.
