Title: The 3rd Child

He had never been a child, delicate and full of life; that he knew.

He didn’t remember any times past, happily blowing out birthday candles or learning to ride a bike. Just liquid dancing before his eyes, and that is all.

The first thing he does remember, though, is a voice; nasal and unpleasant, yet exciting because he was telling him of Adam, his birth mother. Telling him of the Angels and the Lillith and the Children, the 1^st (who was said to be like him, and he wanted to meet her so), the 3^rd (A boy, maybe the same age as he, and he didn’t know if he’d like him or not. He hoped so), and the 2^nd (a girl from Germany, and he wondered what it was like there).

When he meets the 1^st, she dislikes him and is confused; he asks himself ‘didn’t you know?’.

The 2^nd he never did meet, for she was in the hospital, filled with anguish, and that was the only reason he was here.

The 3^rd turns out to be his favorite, a timid boy unsure of himself and craving affection; he tells him he loves him then tells him to kill him, for he is an Angel and the 5^th child, and he must live.

He feels his heart break through the Eva’s hand holding him, and he smiles.

He was never a child, yet he wishes he could have been one.
