It was easy not to forgot, not to remember, not to think when you didn’t do so for yourself. When you were like him, you were programmed.
“Name?” He’d asked in a neutral tone, a ghost of a voice, the kind that slid over silk sheets and dirtied them.
The dark chuckled, telling him that he was to choose, but if anything, choose a good name, a unique, unused name. A sinful name. What he was.
‘Pride,’ rang dully throughout the land, he was once of the seven.
“And how shall I live?” He was programming himself, it seemed, trying to figure out what he was, he didn’t have anything.
“Be impressive,” they called to him. “Be illustrious, be respected, be better.”
But never, ever remember.
