--
This time, the walk in the woods was Zenta's idea. There was an atmosphere he'd been trying to capture, of the wild unknown, but he'd certainly not found it in the studio or fields.
Shima had suggested the woods, and she'd offered to accompany him, but Oomi had quickly interjected that he'd do it. He knew the woods better, after all, and could take Zenta somewhere off the beaten path. Literally.
The sky was growing dark beneath the trees, though Zenta knew all of the woods' sounds well. Deer wandering through, rabbits, birds...
"This way," Oomi said, pointing off where there didn't seem to actually be a trail.
Zenta hesitated and then nodded. It wasn't like they hadn't ran around all over playing games in the past. He'd never done as much as the others, but...
He followed Oomi along what did become a narrow path, though all of a sudden it opened up, a ring of trees parting to let in the last of the twilight.
"We always kept away from this area, with the games," Oomi explained. "But I'm sure I never showed it to you, either."
Zenta shook his head and, quickly, caught his breath. Hopefully Oomi hadn't noticed. He wasn't exhausted, really, but he knew he would be by the time they returned to the house. Still--
There, at the center, was a rock with smaller rocks around it in a way that suggested that once, long ago, it had been a shrine of some sort. Any other markings or bindings were long gone, but the stone remained.
"Do you think it's sealing a demon?" Zenta questioned. He didn't believe in anything like that, yet seeing this...
"When I was a kid, I was pretty sure of it," Oomi replied with a shrug. "Now, we just don't mess with it. Seems safer."
He chuckled, and Zenta chuckled, and a sudden breeze blew down through the leaves and made them all rustle and--
"We should head back," Oomi said quickly. Zenta nodded. He'd seen enough, surely. He had what he needed.
Though he did look behind him a couple of times as they started back along the trail. And he was thankful when they stepped onto the main path and he could walk beside Oomi.
Because it was getting late, of course. Not because--
Not because of the wild or the unknown.
But just because...
...of everything.
