sorry it's late~

He wakes up at the break of dawn now-- it's still dark out, and the silence seems endless. To counter the heaviness, he drowns himself in hard rock from earphones.

He doesn't like the idea of emptiness, so he finds something for every second of every minute. As he pulls his trainers on, for one more minute he forgets her. As he walks out the door onto the street, for two more minutes he forgets her. He sets his watch and starts to run, hoping that maybe after this, for even just one whole day, he might forget her.

As he passes early birds and night owls he thinks about his work, his family. He thinks about his next case-- this one about a corrupt police officer that deserved to be shot. He thinks about what he should do for Ji-hyuk and Da-ni's wedding.

He focuses on the slowly breaking light over the horizon, on the cold air biting against his skin. The music pounds relentlessly in his ears just as he pounds his feet mercilessly against the pavement. The blood sings in his veins.

He passes a swing set and remembers her smile. He jogs faster, the better to forget. But this one thing does it-- soon he's doing it again, seeing her everywhere. Under the fading stars, behind a dim corner, he sees shadows that are not her, not her, not her.

His timer signals the end of his ten minute run, and he admits to himself that nothing's changed at all. He always feels as if he's running after his lost love, no matter which direction he took; still secretly hoping that each footfall might bring him closer to where she was. He slows to a stop and leans against a wall, his heart pounding, still strangely aching for her love.
