[Nov. 20] [G1 Transformers] A Matter of Memory
Title: A Matter of Memory
Date/Theme: Nov. 20 'Hope not built on blindness'
Series: G1 Transformers
Characters: Optimus Prime, Ironhide
Rating: PG
Notes: It's short. It's a prequel to my October Stuntibots ficlet, providing some bit of "what the hell is going on". It's also with two Autobots who I've never written before, so I can't say much about their characterization.
---
"Prime, are ya malfunctioning?" Ironhide gestured sharply at the five Stunticons laid out in Ratchet's med-bay. "We don't know if this'll work. And if it does, why would we want them?"
Optimus Prime stood in one of the corners, keeping well out of Ratchet's way. He worked on paperwork whenever his subordinates would let him; just about everyone had come by to question his decision regarding the Stunticons. Autobot Command wasn't infallible, though, and he did welcome his troops' feedback and questions on most subjects. However, it was getting just a trifle grating to be called insane every five minutes.
Ironhide, fortunately, ought to be the last of them.
"They're very young still," he said gently. "They won't lose as much with a memory wipe, and we'll have a good idea of who they'll be when they wake up. They've also got a better chance of changing than one of the older Decepticons."
"When ya put it like that..." Ironhide still shook his head, however. "Better to take 'em out back and shoot them, though. They're dangerous, Prime, and we do know exactly what they'll be like."
"Give them a chance, Ironhide. They might surprise you."
"I don't doubt it. They certainly surprised us when they kidnapped Perceptor," The van muttered.
Optimus tried not to sigh. The idea did seem cracked from the outside - a simple memory wipe couldn't change that much in a person as young as the Stunticons were. Yet, they were the best choices for something like this, because the Autobots would know exactly what they were getting into. The Stunticons might be loud, violent, and crude, but when all was said and done, the Autobots did have worse people on their side.
