„Smith?“ His head was throbbing but Kurdy forced his eyes open. Stared at the little man, who was cowering beside him. „You again? What are you doing here? Markus told you not to...“
„I see, you are okay.“ A weak smile showed up on Smith's lips. „Good. I wasn't sure if I would make it in time.“
Kurdy frowned, trying hard to sort out his confused thoughts. Only blurred memories. The tour to Clearwater Markus had sent him for; alone. Only routine, without any danger. But then a group of Skinheads had stopped his jeed, pulled him out of the car before he could react. Forced him to kneel down in the mud. Brutal blows and kicks; he hadn't been able to reach his hidden knife, and when one of the guys had finally aimed his gun at him, he had known, there was no escape.
Smith. Kurdy groaned. He couldn't remember, what he had done to stop the Skinheads, it seemed impossible, he was too small, too weak, he tried to avoid the use of guns and any kind of brute force whenever it was possible. But obviously he had done it again. Kurdy turned his head away, inwardly cringing. The thought alone gave him the creeps.
„Fuck, Smith. Why don't you mind your own business? You can't turn up every time, thinking that you can tame everything. What do you think you are, almighty like a God?“
Smith stood up, reaching out for Kurdy's hand. „Do you think, you can get up? We should better take the heels and bring you back to the Mountain, I guess, before the Skinheads will be back.“ And while Kurdy reluctantly gave in, because, yes, Smith was right, of course, the little guy added in a low voice:“ No, I am not God. But he told me that you are in danger, and he wants me to have an eye on you.“
