October 2019 Prompts

Hello and here are the prompts for October!

These are all drawn from Royall Tyler's 2012 translation of The Tale of the Heike. (Penguin has a lovely softback edition if you're looking for one ~)

I tried for autumnal, at least, but I may have fallen a little wide of the mark? Nonetheless, hope you enjoy --

01. the love that those two had shared was touching beyond all words
02. people muttered among themselves that this was a bad sign
03. she treated him after that as though he did not exist
04. mighty heroes fainted when he raged
05. the pines beside the lake and the willows at the water's edge
06. the years may come, the years may go
07. but only his empty name lived on
08. on a pillar of the abandoned palace, somebody left these poems
09. each of them wept her secret tears
10. "no doubt I suffered this shocking fate so that we two could meet again"
11. he had simply wanted known the weight of an emperor's word
12. deepening autumn melancholy weighs on everyone equally
13. he feared neither devil nor god
14. "just now I heard the marvelous sound"
15. a few cherry blossoms still lingered
16. they climbed towards brilliant, soaring clouds
17. what, then, could any mortal do?
18. "I have never done what I truly aspire to do"
19. as a caged bird longs for the clouds
20. the enemy menace rose up on every side
21. "that is why you still have your head"
22. what an elegant way to say it!
23. snowflakes blew past them like plum petals
24. beyond a mist-shrouded island, a moon rose
25. the warriors guarding him wet the sleeves of their armour with tears
26. so grave a mistake would be all too easy to make
27. when at last the cremation was done, he gathered the white bones together
28. lashed by wind and wave, they journeyed
29. the world as the people had known it seemed doomed
30. at that moment the gloom of the past few days lifted
31. "everyone will condemn our verdict"

Intriguing how they seem to tell a connected story! Love it. I feel like using the first prompt for something friendshippy and familial.
