November 14 / Hidalgo / "A Desert Rose"
Title: A Desert Rose
Day/Theme: November 14 / Shedding light on fire
Series: Hidalgo
Character/Pairing: Frank Hopkins / Jazira / Hidalgo
Rating: PG
Notes: Standard disclaimers apply. I am not making money out of this, I swear. No, it's NOT a twisted threesome! These three characters I consider to be the most important characters in the movie. XD
There is a legend that is often spoken of within the tribes of the Bedouin and across the sands of Araby of the greatest survival race in the world. It is said that this race does not only test a man's endurance, but his soul. He battles against all elements and faces his inner demons in the race known by many as The Ocean of Fire.
For centuries, the great tribes of horse breeders have pitted themselves and their horses against an ever-changing landscape, dangerous and unpredictable. Out there, both man and horse soon learn the value of having faith in each other, or risking their lives to Allah's Will and the tempest of the desert.
There is another story, however, that is now passed on from the smallest child in the outskirts of Syria to the travelling merchants of Baghdad. It is of three beings, each with their own destiny, with their own stories to tell. One is a cowboy, a pale-faced man with blue eyes from the West who travelled the great ocean to come to Araby and found himself. The woman, Jazira, is the daughter of the Bedouin Sheikh of Sheikhs who lords over the entire race. Her bloodline is of the legendary horse-breeders, the people who ride the back of the wind on fine Arab stallions and find freedom at their heels.
But the one that gave them both hope to find themselves is the painted horse. The unbridled and untamed mustang named Hidalgo, spirited and whose heart burns as hot as the desert fire.
It is the horse who won the hearts of the Bedouin and who paved the way for his own legend.
And he rides the back of the wind.
