The catastrophe of the crystals' fading was all-encompassing. If everything just ... stopped ... while the earth rotted through and flame died out, well, there wouldn't be much left to the world before long.
And then there were the small, maddening problems that were just facets of the greater looming doom.
... Like, say, trying to navigate waterways when the wind was still as death and the currents slowed to sluggish ripples.
Maybe -- once they'd rekindled the crystals and set things to rights -- they'd be able to laugh at it, though.
Because four adventurers paddling like mad to make headway really was hilarious.
