Dread. Unease. Revulsion. All these and more; a kaleidoscope of emotions rippling through the townsfolk whenever he passed, and even more so if he happened to stop and speak with someone, to inquire about a shopkeeper's wares or direct a traveler to the inn.
They'd said he'd get used to it, his trainers did. Cecil broke out in cold fear of his own at the very thought.
Perhaps not feeling these agonies would be some kind of "blessing".
It would make him more ... efficient at his tasks.
But the cost ...
