It was depressingly easy to do so.
His helm hid any sliver of emotion that escaped, of course; a convenient, literal mask as he made his decision. And he was not as impassive as he wished Cecil and his companions to believe.
But he'd no reason to decline.
He'd done so much to so many -- and he could not recall, with any surety, where he last belonged.
No, to leave was the better choice.
