"Enter," said Reinhardt, not looking up from the book he had open in front of him at his table in the library. "Unlike you to stand in doorways, Summoner. Your thoughts?"

"I'm –" Her hands clenched into fists at her sides. "Please stand and face me, Reinhardt. I don't like talking to your back when I've got important things to say."

"As you wish." He closed his book and rose from his chair, his face a study in practiced neutrality. "What is it that is disturbing you, then? You have my full attention."

"Are you ... teasing me, Reinhardt?" Kiran exhaled hard. "If I'm here, then you know what I want to say to you. You don't have to keep maintaining that noble façade."

He had a soft smile on his face as he laid one white-gloved hand on top of her head. "I am concealing nothing from you, Kiran. You have accepted my feelings, and that is why you have come, but you must understand that those feelings run deep, and, to be the strongest hero I can be for you, I must keep those passions strictly controlled."

"So there is passion there," Kiran said, sounding a little wistful. "That's really what I wanted to know. I was ... sure, mostly, but it's good to hear it straight from you." She collected herself, looking up at him. "But what about your feelings for Ishtar?"

He bowed his head. "It is not to be. I am willing to accept that. Besides –" He used one hand to get her to tilt her head upwards. "– our relationship only works if you are the only person inside my heart. To try and have it any other way is dishonorable."

"Are you going to kiss me now?" she whispered.

"That is how conversations like these generally come to a close," he replied, leaning down and closing the conversation exactly as he had described.

END.
