Privacy was not easy to come by when you were stuck in a caravan of fellow dissenters and would-be revolutionaries. Not that Lancer had any grief with his comrades -- far from it! -- but the closeness of it all could jangle the nerves sometimes, despite it all.
So tonight he decided to do something about it.
Rook saw him slip out of camp, he was sure; she'd certainly looked in his direction, and he'd offered a slow salute in acknowledgement before he picked his way towards the river.
And there in the river, cool water flowing all around him, he sang --
