Admiral Hayes stared out over the Pioneer's bridge, and then beyond it, in her mind's eye, to the sea of stars and the alien worlds that orbited them. Like the small worldlet her fleet orbited, and its massive teal behemoth of a mother-planet.
Pioneer wouldn't be moving for some time; when it did, she might not even be present ... if she took up the call for aid from the kaleidoscope of alien people awaiting her answer.
They needed help. Tirol needed rebuilding. Even Optera, she knew, had suffered.
All because of one wretch who could not leave well enough alone.
