It took importing alien nutrients, scavenging crystals that the locals didn't require, tankers of water, and not a little bit of hope --
-- yes, hope; and even the odd prayer, he was not quite lost to arrogance yet --
-- but finally the glittering canyon lay enveloped in pinks and soft corals and coiling jade. A single vast hydroponic garden.
It'd taken time, and effort, but Zor had coaxed the Flower of Life to take root on Spheris.
He drifted across the sea of blossoms on a hoverdisc, not daring to touch them.
So little a gesture ...
But ... I need to move on.
