[June 1] [Fire Emblem Heroes] Pho-tome-graph
Title: Pho-tome-graph
Day / Prompt: 01 / Dog Days of Summer
Fandom: Fire Emblem Heroes
Character(s) / Pairing(s): Alfonse, Anna, Gaius, Sharena
Rating / Warning(s): All Ages
Word Count: 640
"Hey. Commander." Gaius rubbed the back of his head, pausing to take a lick of the ice cream pop he had in one hand. "Is there, y'know, any real reason why you're hiding behind the only bush on the beach? It's ... a pretty obvious spot. You can trust me on this. I'm kind of an expert when it comes to hiding places and stuff like that."
"Shush, Gaius," Anna replied, red hair plastered to her head, sweat dripping from her brow. "I'm not out here for my health." She grimaced. "And why you are out here crouching behind this same bush? There's not really room here for two. You can go."
"It's that tome again, isn't it?" Gaius deadpanned. Anna did not reply. "Thought so. I take it your return on investment last summer just wasn't what you wanted it to be?"
"It was just fine, thank you very much!" Anna was getting irritated. "And what's wrong with wanting to make money? The Order of Heroes might've been built on hope, but it can't run on it." She huffed. "Besides, wasn't your Anna interested in the same thing?"
"Not as much as you'd think." Gaius shrugged. "And, when we all went to the beach in Ylisse, she was out there with the rest of us. She cut a pretty good figure in that swimsuit, too." A dry smirk. "You wouldn't be sweating so bad if you put one on yourself, you know. And I'm sure those pictures would sell just fine for you."
At that, Anna turned red, elbowing him hard in the ribs. "Don't make this about me. You're still behind my bush, and you need to go. They'll all be here soon."
"What? Self-conscious? You?" A short bark of a laugh. "Worried about how you'd look? Well, since you're pretty much your sister's twin, and since I know you've been getting pretty good exercise from having Virion up in your chambers late at night, I don't —"
"Get. Out. Of. Here." She grimaced again. "He hasn't been talking, has he?"
"Oh, he's a perfect gentleman. Don't worry about him." Gaius finished off his ice cream pop, licking the stick and putting it in his pocket. "But it doesn't take a whole lot of brain power to put two and two together, and, y'know, I'm good at that kind of thing."
"Why are you even here, Gaius?" Anna elbowed him again – not as hard as before.
"Well, I don't care if it's hot, and I still have my trunks from last year, so –" He shrugged. "– and, maybe, just maybe, I'll catch a glimpse of Camilla. Don't tell me that's not the reason why you've gone to all this trouble. I mean, you've even moved some of those palm fronds to get the best lighting for –" He shook his head. "Busted, huh?"
"It doesn't matter if you know." Anna fidgeted. "But, seriously, if we're both out here, we'll both be caught, so you'd better get going if you know what's good for you!"
"You mean you will get caught," Gaius amended. "I've got certain skills." He sighed. "But I'm out of ice cream, and I think I want another one, so I guess I'll be going."
"Good, and not a moment too soon!" She ushered him out of the bush, and he walked down the beach, scratching the back of his head and grumbling to himself ... until he encountered Alfonse and Sharena around a bend a short distance from the bush.
"So that's where she's hiding this year," Alfonse grumbled. "Well done, Gaius. She'll not be taking any pictures of either heroes or Askran royalty this year."
"You can thank me later," Gaius replied, shrugging, "preferably with more ice cream."
Sharena nodded. "I'll ask Kiran for the recipe, one of these days."
END.
