[November 1] [Original] Ebony on Ivory
Title: Ebony on Ivory
Day/Theme: November 01: Things you've never seen
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Gale, the Mirhalas Family [Palomir, Serawen, Seraline, Rolendal]
Rating: G
A/N: Still, in fact, sorta AU. 150 words.
During her twentieth Yule at Cendar, Gale gave the Mirhalases a piano.
It had been a somewhat bemusing affair, really, as she'd refused to allow entry into the parlor until, she declared, 'the surprise was ready'.
If surprise was her intent, she certainly hadn't failed.
"It's lovely, Gale," Seraline had said warmly, ever the consummate mother. Gale smiled briefly in thanks, but her eyes were drawn to Palomir, who was looking askance, and Serawen, who was simply looking. Rolendal looked amused, brows arched.
"You don't have these in Cendar," Gale explained shyly, twisting a lock of onyx-black hair around her finger, "So I thought I'd make you something no one else has."
And that was that.
Later in the week, left alone, Gale and Palomir sat in the parlor, quietly watching the sunbeams lend the wood a glossy varnish.
"How do you play it?" Palomir asked at last, giving in to curiosity. The girl smiled, padding over to settle herself on the piano seat.
"If you want to learn, come over here," she said, patting the empty space beside her. "I'll teach you."
