[February 1 ] [Strange Magic] Queenly
Title: Queenly
Day/Theme: 01. It’s not that you’re different – it’s that you’re not the same.
Series: Strange Magic
Character/Pairing: Marianne/Bog
Rating: G, some spoilers if you haven’t seen the movie
She had been called a lot of things. Not to her face, she was the heir to the crown after all, but she knew what they said. She was clumsy and forgetful and often lost in her imaginings of adventure and exploration. Not exactly queenly material. She had never heard anyone say that, but she worried about it. Her father had never mentioned anything she was lacking to be queen.
When Roland had come along, she had felt that surely, certainly, if someone as wonderful as he was could be so in love with her that it had to mean she was worthy. Except he hadn’t been in love with her, and she had found out the hard way.
Her heart had broken and the pieces had been sharp and pointing outwards. She wasn’t going to be fooled again. She wasn’t going to need anyone else again. She changed and everyone had something new to talk about. Unique, her own father had said.
Then, there had been the love potion and the goblins and the goblin’s king. She was in love again, with someone so different from Roland that everyone would be talking again. This was different in every way. She didn’t have to prove anything to Bog. He had already seen her at her worst. She had insulted him and attacked him and busted into his throne room like a howling fury.
All those sharp pieces of her heart fit right in the Dark Forest. It was twisted with briars and rough patches and it all made her think that maybe, just maybe, she had been wrong about love. She had only loved in the wrong place and maybe, just maybe, prepared to be queen of the wrong place.
