Mireille was passing the evening before a job at a cafe. As she idly paged through a magazine, she found a full-page photograph of a model in a wedding dress.
That model looks like she is my age, Mireille thought. I did not expect to survive this long, but I have... and I shall never wear white.
And if I survive a few years longer?...
As if on cue, a young mother pushed a pram into the cafe.
Mireille tossed the magazine aside. Perhaps I will die tonight, she thought, and then I won't have to ponder such things again.
