[October 16th] [Original] Class Notes
Title: Class Notes
Day/Theme: October 16: Milan, Japan
Series: Original (Diana and Belle #16)
Character/Pairing: Diana and Belle
Rating: PG-13
Author's Note: In a dorm room during midterms in a west coast university.
“Why would she ask us about those two together? Milan and Japan…they have nothing in common,” Belle insisted, shaking her head.
“Yes, they do. The people of Milan and Japan speak Italian and Japanese respectively, and those languages have matching sounds for each of their vowels. Ah, eh, ee, oh, oo. So they do have a link,” Diana said, just to be difficult. Unlike Belle, who had spread out her books and copious notes in an orderly fashion to study, Diana was not studying at all. Her book was probably under her bed and her notes were mostly mental.
“You are insane. With answers like that, Professor McConnell will fail you for sure,” Belle said dismissively, flipping through her notes.
“It’s a important comparison, it makes it easier for speakers of each language to use phonetics to figure out the other’s language.” Diana replied, sprawling on the bed and almost knocking Belle’s book off the desk.
“In case you have forgotten already, this is a class on world religions, not linguistics,” Belle explained sarcastically, frowning as she moved her things out of harms way.
“Maybe they have the same latitude,” Diana mused, raising a lazy hand to play with the blinds.
“Maybe you should look at your notes,” hissed Belle, turning the pages faster.
“Maybe you should read yours more closely,” Diana said with a lazy smirk, hands behind her head to allow her to watch her roommate’s agitation.
“What do you mea… oh,” Belle looked rather blankly at the offending question in her notes.
“‘What do Japan and Mongolia have in common?’” quoted Diana from the bed, right before a pillow hit her squarely in the face.
