Shin considered the menu hanging on the wall behind the counter. He fingered his wallet; his empty wallet; his painfully empty wallet.

He sighed.

He was broke, plain and simple. Absolutely no money in his wallet and about twelve thousand yen in his bank account. It had been depressing to see when he checked his bank statement this morning. Twelve thousand misling yen. He had no freaking idea how he was going to stretch that money, because he wouldn't be getting paid until next week.

Shin sighed again.

He knew that he could always ask his father for a bit of cash, and he had a standing invitation to eat dinner at Yamaguchi's place. He didn't really need to spend any money on food, at least, since Yamaguchi's family was more than willing to feed his sorry ass.

Shin had intended to slowly become more independent, now that he had graduated high school. Which was why he had requested to his father to stop giving him an allowance. While he couldn't afford to pay for the rent on his own yet, much less his tuition, Shin had stopped taking any more money from his father. He had gotten a part time job, which usually took care of the rest of his expenses.

However, an unexpected car problem had drained most of his savings and left him in his current situation: broke.

Shin put his wallet away and walked out of the cafe.

Still, there was one thing to be firm in his resolved, and another thing to starve due to stubbornness. Besides, the men at the Ooedo-kumi cooked better than anything he could buy at the shops.

Shin pulled out his phone. “Hey, Yamaguchi, you think I can come over tonight?”
