[October 15] [CLAMP] Fated
Title: Fated
Date/Theme: October 15 / Night: a nightmare
Series: Those crazy CLAMP crossovers (mostly CCS)
Character/Pairing: Clow
Rating: PG
Notes: This fits in with my sci-fi AU, Blend, as backstory. But it also works as a standalone.
Fated
He woke up screaming again, clutching his head, shaking violently as if the visions hadn't abandoned him yet. It took a while to realize that he was still in his bedroom.
Still free.
Clow got up and rushed to the window. His hands were still trembling a little when he opened it. The lights of the enormous city shone around and below his apartment, but he wasn't looking at them; he only cared about the air. He vaguely thought that it was cold and he should put on a robe over his nightclothes.
But he didn't move, he didn't leave the window nor the precious wind that blew on his face. Who knew how soon it would be taken away from him...
No, he shouldn't think of that, not now. It was precisely what he was trying to forget: the vision that haunted his nightmares, the one that was beginning to obscure all the others.
It wasn't so bad during the day, when he had people around him, occupations to distract him. The nights, however... the nights terrified him. They held him prisoner of his own dreams. They surrounded him with thousands of screens that changed images at maddening speed; they locked him in circular rooms that were tiny, tiny, and he knew he was never going to leave.
He had hoped, in the beginning, that those were only nightmares. But he knew better. He couldn't fool himself anymore; he couldn't pretend he didn't know the truth. He would be a prisoner of war, a human sacrifice, watching over the future for the sake of the world.
He should tell Clef about it. He should tell someone.
And yet... what could they do? The future was already written. Fate was merciless, and what he saw could never be changed.
It made it all the more ironic, he thought, and let a tired sigh escape as he closed the window.
