[11 Sept] [Viewfinder/Tokyo Crazy Paradise] [Off Trajectory 11/?]

Title: Off Trajectory 11/?
Day/Theme: 11 Sept/ I left her in the early morning
Series: Viewfinder/Tokyo Crazy Paradise
Pairing: Asami Ryuichi/Takaba Akihito, Tsukasa/Ryuji
Notes/warnings: Timelines for both series have been viciously tweaked to create the scenario I have in mind.

Takaba sank down into the couch, feeling lightheaded. He had expected that, but it was still a shock to hear it.

"Please sit," the man who was Asami's brother – no, Shirogami, the man had a name – said.

For a moment, Takaba thought Shirogami was being sarcastic, until he heard the soft bumps of Suoh and Kirishima sitting down in another couch, uncertainty in their posture as well as bewilderment that they were apparently obeying this man.

"I know it's a shock-"

"Oi, Shirogami, I'm going to the hospital," Kunakata interrupted, and Takaba turned his head to see his old mentor standing in the doorway. Somehow, despite the careless tone of his voice, and the casual way he addressed the seated man, Takaba had the impression Munakata was actually being rather deferential. It had to do with the way he seemed to be on the verge of being on a bow, even though he was standing up straight.

"Is anything the matter?" Shirogami looked up at that.

"You'd know better than me. You left her early this morning, didn't you? They'll inform you first if there was something."

"Ah."

"I'm just going to keep an eye on things," Munakata shrugged. "Besides, I thought I'd take this one with me," he nodded his head to one side, and Takaba caught sight of Feilong. His heart stuttered. Beside him, he could hear Suoh's intake of breath. "Make sure he's out of the way for now."

Shirogami nodded. "I see. My thanks, Ichiro."

Munakata gave him a wry version of his usual scowl. "You don't have to thank me. Okaasan will get pissed off if she hears that." He focused on Takaba. "Morning, punk. I'm going off. Phone me if you need to talk."

And with that, he left, Feilong uncharacteristically quiet on his heels.

"Liu-san has been surprisingly helpful," Shirogami said.

Takaba cleared his throat. "He-he has?" he asked. He resisted the urge to voice his disbelief.

"Our dealings with Liu-san have been, until recently, through his legitimate business." Shirogami's gaze grew amused, as though he could sense Takaba's disbelief. "Oh yes, he does have some. The triads in Hong Kong are particularly enterprising, and all manner of businesses, lawful or otherwise, flourish there. But Liu-san, being who he is, did know about our origins."

"Kuryugumi," Takaba blurted.

Shirogami's gaze sharpened, and Takaba felt himself leaning back as though someone had pushed him.

"That's not a name we use much, especially to outsiders," Shirogami said evenly.

Suoh stammered, "The Ku-kuryugumi?"

"But I suppose you aren't really an outsider, Takaba-kun," Shirogami said, his voice deliberately light. "Nor are Suoh and Kirishima."

Takaba continued to face Shirogami but he could feel Suoh and Kirishima swallow.

"Back to Liu-san. He knew who was really behind… a company of ours. And he had heard rumours of an old secret resurfacing, after nearly twenty years. That secret had nearly torn the Kuryugumi apart once, and Liu-san believed that we would be extremely grateful if he could alert us to those rumours.

"We were," Shirogami said. "Liu-san requested to meet me, but Liu-san had a bad shock when he saw me."

No shit, Takaba couldn't help thinking. It must have been like meeting a ghost… all over again, after the confrontation Feilong and Asami had in Hong Kong.

"I'm afraid we had to be quite insistent before Liu-san told us the whole story, including what happened in Hong Kong. Of course, I've known all this time of Ryuichi's doings, but I did not know the details of his trip to Hong Kong, save that it was to retrieve Takaba-kun."

Unable to help himself, Takaba flushed. Rescued like a damned damsel in distress. He wondered what Shirogami meant by "insistent" – did they kidnap and torture Feilong? Call him a bad person, but Takaba thought he was, on the whole, mostly okay with that.

"That was when we decided to try and contact Ryuichi, to find out what he knew."

That must have been the day that strange man turned up at the penthouse, Takaba realised.

"Shortly after-" For the first time Shirogami's expression turned dark.

"Someone bombed our home," Asami said.
