“It is beautiful.”
The remnants of Sebonzakura fell down around them, sharp edges changing to pale flesh, mingling with the real blossoms before fading, becoming a sword again. He felt the brief brush of her – the other her, the lady of edges and drapery who scraped a line across his collarbone with her fine nails. She was not his lady, not so soft nor as passionate as her.
But she was the one pressing a hand against his jaw now, as hard as it was smoky, pale and pink. He reached up and gripped her wrist, pulling it away from him. “No.”
She laughed and he was surrounded by her for a moment before she left him, returning to the sleep of her sword-form. He sheathed the blade in a shower of cherry blossoms.
“Byakuya-sama,” and he was bending over her under the canopy of trees, at the edge of an ornamental stream, and her head tipped back so that her hair trailed in the water, fine and inky black.
