Some days, when he’s afraid she’s forgetting, he drags her out onto the balcony.

“Look at this world, Jane Foster,” he says, as he shoves her to her knees.

“I see it,” she says, but she’s lying. She sees only the red blight of the sky and the blackened, twisted remains of the Chrysler Building. “It’s on fire.”

“It’s not on fire,” he says, but there is that unspoken yet that makes her shiver. She would love to say it’s in fear, but she knows her body like she knows the stars, and she can’t deny she shivers in anticipation.

“Loki,” she moans, heat coiling low in her belly. She can feel his fist, tight in her hair, and she wants –

And then the world dissolves, and she sees the blue, blue sky of a perfect New York Spring, the art-deco of the Chrysler Building beautiful and unspoiled.

“Look at me,” he says, but she doesn’t. She doesn’t want to see the ruin of him.
