January 2015 themes
Roughly half of the themes for this January are Helen Oyeyemi quotes because I have a great and terrible crush on her writing.
THEMES;
1. In the long run, the sharpest weapon of all is a kind and gentle spirit.
2. The brave men did not kill dragons. The brave men rode them.
3. My dreams! My brother! My family! My world! How dare you try to take these things, because they are mine! I have a duty!
4. The girl was lighter without her heart.
5. the love and the hate, the bitters and the sweets
6. They clap their hands because they are looking for an excuse to hold them.
7. We were fighting so very hard and achieving so very little aside from staying alive. BUT THAT'S EVERYTHING, my father wrote to me, when I told him that in a letter.
8. The sword snaps up. A lot of things break. The matter is resolved in the same way she has resolved everything else.
9. Cranleigh (n.) A mood of irrational irritation with everyone and everything.
10. I hate that my life is teaching me that I can only be loved if I put my love out of reach and just drift above people until they love my remoteness.
11. If you want to help others heal, love them without an agenda.
12. The first coffee of the morning is never, ever, ready quickly enough. You die before it's ready and then your ghost pours the resurrection potion out of the moka pot.
13. Your name is a golden bell hung in my heart. I would break my body to pieces to call you once by your name.
14. I can't turn you into a story. There is absence here, where the words stop.
15. That's when I realized that I had become a child who would be found, and I was so happy I started sobbing. ... It's nice knowing someone will find you.
16. diffuse with the dusty, retrograde light of a sun that never set
17. In Narnia a girl might ring a bell in a deserted temple and feel the chime in her eyes, pure as the freeze that forces tears. Then when the sound dies out, the White Witch wakes. It was like, I want to touch you, and can I touch you, now what next, a dagger?
18. Of course! After all, people can only understand what they've experienced!
19. She encouraged herself to see her very small presence in the world as a good thing, a power, something that a hero might possess.
20. My shining dishonesty will be the salvation of me.
21. And all the while there was the theater of my hands.
22. the future where you can just forget about the dreams you gave up on is never gonna come, so
23. ...there's a difference between having no one because you've chosen it and having no one because everyone has been taken away.
24. Books are my version of "experiences." I'm made of them.
25. The water is very green and has a sweet taste, both boys wrote in their diaries, at different times.
26. Leave your boots in my doorway until the salt on them makes rings on the hardwood floor.
27. Because things grow. Wherever there is air and light and open space, things grow.
28. pale clean lines, spray of freckles
29. You know how it is when someone says your name really well, like it means something that makes the world a better place.
30. Hold on to the delusion that you need me; think yourself more deeply into it. It won't do you any harm, you know, and if one day you want to get rid of me you will always have the strength to do so; but meanwhile you have given me a gift such as I never even dreamt of finding in this life.
