"You think we'll be back in Atlantic City anytime soon?" Charlie leaned one arm on the rail and took a long drag from his cigarette. Bright little flecks of flame drifted away down toward the sand, red and orange speckles that blinked out long before they touched the ground.

"No," Meyer answered, "Not for business at least. ...Maybe you've decided you like the air here? You want a summer house on the sand?"

"I think not," Charlie shook his head, "This place ain't quite what it used to be. There old clubs aren't there anymore for me to visit; I can't hook up with the same company."

Meyer stepped forward to stand side by side with his friend, gazing out at the darkening ocean. "There's just you and me, passing through again. But I guess we're not the same as when we first arrived."

"Would you come here for fun? Don't you like Florida?"

"Florida...Havana... We've both got New York."

"Well," Charlie straightened up, ready to go and leave this place behind them, "We'll always have the memories."

"I think I prefer the memories of New York," Meyer turned and followed him, "I didn't nearly get myself killed so often there."
