[Dec. 14] [Boardwalk Empire] Bridge to Nowhere
Title: Bridge to Nowhere
Day/Theme: Dec. 14, 2014 "a bridge of paper and ink"
Series: Boardwalk Empire
Character/Pairing: Tommy, Julia, Richard
Rating: PG (and beware season 4 spoilers)
"I counted sixteen cows today," Tommy reported to Julia. He had waited until the two of them were alone in the kitchen putting away the last of the dishes before bringing it up. Aunt Emma seemed very nice and all, but Tommy was a little wary of letting new people into his life with open arms. Paul said that a boy shouldn't have to worry so much. Going to Wisconsin was supposed to help with all that.
"You're just as on top of that as Richard would expect you to be."
"I'm 'fraid if I have too many more to count up tomorrow and then the day after that I'm going to forget how many I started out with," Tommy confided in her.
"Oh, I know," she suggested, "Why don't you write it down? You can keep a journal about your adventures out there and part of it can be how many cows you saw that day. And then you'll have a record to consult when it's time to give Richard your total."
Tommy agreed that this was an excellent idea. He began the process that very night- a one-sided correspondence to start out with, but it shouldn't be long until Richard could brought in on this secret note-taking.
Y month, X day. Cows counted: 16.
Uncle Hubert says Aunt Emma and Richard used to have a dog on the farm. Paul says that maybe we can get a new dog once we're settled in more.
Y month, Y day. Cows counted: 12?
There's an empty birds nest in the tree by the mailbox.
Y month, Z day. Cows counted: 14.
Aunt Emma is teaching me about things around the farm.
Z month, A day. Cows counted: 7.
It rained, so I mostly stayed inside. There are lots of books here. Aunt Emma says most of them belonged to Richard. (Richard is late)
Z month, E day. Cows counted: 21?
I fell and scraped my knee. (Richard, you're really late)
Z month, F day.Cows counted: 18 doesn't matter anymore
Richard isn't coming.
