[Dec. 8] [The Wind Rises] Not Even Fit For

Title: Not Even Fit For
Day/Theme: Dec. 8, 2014 "a dapper villain in a Sunday serial"
Series: The Wind Rises
Character/Pairing: Jiro Horikoshi
Rating: PG (also, spoilers)

When Jiro sees himself in the mirror now, he does a double take sometimes. It can be hard to reconcile what's reflected back at him with how he feels inside. He looks a bit tired, maybe, worn around the edges (but after this war who doesn't?), but he's cleaner and neater and better dressed than most of the people he encounters on a day to day basis (it wasn't until he was no longer working on his pet projects that his eyes opened fully to how the war had treated most of the country's citizens and could judge how comparatively well he had fared in that department).

Nahoko isn't missing much to not have seen these things (or maybe she saw them all- maybe she knew through his dreams).

His beautiful airplanes have fulfilled their mission, but- he isn't a child anymore, he should have seen clearly- all that mission had been was destruction and death.

He carries this burden on his shoulders as he walks around town, in a black suit, trim and sharp and ready for a funeral. He would be happier if he had meant such things, wouldn't he? He is far too glum to be a dapper villain in a Sunday serial.
