Title: What they are told to see

Day/Theme: 3rd November/People see what they wish to see. And in most cases, what they are told that they see.

Somehow, he had always known that he had never managed to take centerstage in her heart.  That that place was already taken.  And that she knew it, even if she didn't want to admit it.  But he tried to never let it stop him from trying.

Hence, the public displays of affection.  As much to comfort her as to allay his own fears that they were slowly drifting apart.  That their days together were numbered.

He can sense his rival's unease. He can hear the desperation in the faked laughter.  He tries to be as outwardly confident as possible so as not to let any hint of fear leak out.  He takes every opportunity to mark her as his girlfriend in public.

It's like performing on stage.   And once she's properly mine, when I've erased all trace of him from her heart, then I can stop.  This he thinks to himself even as deep inside his misgivings grow and he braces himself for the inevitable.
