[September 9] [Pacific Rim] Vacation
Title: Vacation
Day/Theme: Ticket Home
Series:Pacific Rim
Character/Pairing:Hermann/Newt
He didn’t want to go home. Even if it was still there, it wouldn’t be the same as he remembered it. Even it hadn’t changed, he had. The old saying went ‘You can’t go home again’, and he found himself making excuses not to. They were all allowed vacations. Ten years of vacation days never used, Hansen had said, trying to smile. He had nowhere to go either, Hermann remembered. Or at least, no one to go home too. Or with.
“You really don’t want to do this, do you?” Newt said, coming up beside him. He already had his ticket, which meant he had been through the line already while Hermann stared forlornly at the kiosk.
“No,” he said.
“So,” Newt said, fidgeting a little. “It might actually be ok that I got two tickets? So you could come with me?”
He held both up and Hermann blinked at them. The name of the city printed on them was Shoreham. Newt wasn’t from New York. Why would he- Oh. Hermann remembered a conversation had in a lull between panics, months ago.
“Wardenclyffe Tower,“ he realized.
“Yeah!” Newt had the grace to look sheepish. “You wanna come? The museum is open now and don’t even pretend you aren’t a Tesla fan.” He waved the tickets invitingly. “So. Yeah?”
Hopefully, Hermann’s slump of relief would look like amusement or exasperation or anything else at all. He took the nearest ticket and it was Newt’s turn to go a little rubbery. They only had a couple hours before the flight left, so they bickered all the way to the gate to get a seat near an outlet and the taco stand.
