[Jan. 30] [THG] The Boundaries of a Story
Title: The Boundaries of a Story
Day/Theme: Jan. 30, 2014 "but all stories end: you know that"
Series: Hunger Games trilogy
Character/Pairing: OC, Mags
Rating: PG
Author's comment: heavily references other writing of mine. another depressing one. It's been a long month, ha ha...
Stories end, of course, but those ends are determined by the one who tells them. When I tell the story of Jack, where should it draw to a close? Does it end at the moment where he and I last parted ways? The moment after which I never saw him again? Or should I carry it on further? Because I know things, though not everything, that happened to Jack after our last meeting, but before he passed away.
Though I didn't meet him until toward the later portion of it, if this is the story of his life, does his death make the most appropriate end? Because I know of that, though I find it sad to tell.
Even though Jack died much sooner than any of us expected at the time, it's hardly as if the story of Jack ended there. The things he did and, just in general, his memory, continued to effect all of us who knew him long after that. I still think about him. It's been over fifty years. I have a picture of us up in my home.
And now, as I prepare to leave, for what I imagine will be the last time, there are traces of the story of Jack that go with me. Because I fight for the cause he would have fought for. Because the memory of him makes me braver. (because if we meet again, I want to say I did all that I could and never forgot him all that time)
