author's comment: I always feel like I waste my own themes... This is, well, something.

He saw the blow coming far enough ahead that perhaps it could've been diverted some other way. He could've ordered someone else into its path- there were soldiers with him and they were as ready to do their duty, or more so, than any others. It wasn't as if he hadn't tried to reach Sasarai directly. But his call of "Bishop!" hadn't hit home with enough impact to move his dear commander.

He had covered that small stretch of ground with such speed- he had never imagined himself capable of moving like that (not at this age anyway, he wasn't old, but he wasn't twenty anymore either). If it had been a spell, he could've counted on Sasarai to brush it away with even the smallest bit of warning and a flick of his hand, but a projectile of that nature...

He was covered in blood in his bishop's arms. There were flecks of his blood on his bishop's face. "Dios," Sasarai gasped, "You-"

He would die for this man, perhaps, someday. But, the mages and medics were ready and did their work well, so not today.
