[Jan. 19] [Tales of Rebirth] Entwined
Title: Entwined
Day/Theme: Jan. 19, 2014 "at the beginning of his life"
Series: Tales of Rebirth
Character/Pairing: Veigue/Claire
Rating: G
At the beginning of his life, things were decided for Veigue that set him moving forward in a particular direction. When his parents died, he was far too young to make an important choices for himself, so it stood to reason that other adults around him would have to decide something. It was like giving a tiny, newly sprouting vine a trellis to climb. No one forced him to be particularly this way or that, but they put things there that could help him.
Veigue was an orphan, and Marco Bennett took him into his home. But it wasn't just that he acquired people who would feed and clothe and raise him- there was another child in the Bennett home. Veigue, born an only child, gained a playmate, a near-constant companion, something of a friend and something of a sister.
He was a quiet sort and introverted. At the village's one-room schoolhouse, he would play with the other boys and girls- tree-climbing and ballgames and iceskating or hockey when the pond froze- but it was just for the enjoyment of shared activity. There was only one person he was close with in a talking sense. Sometimes Veigue and Claire played with different groups of children and other times they played with the same ones. In the end, though, they were always found back home together.
They grew together, like two small trees in the wintery mountains, each supporting the other against the buffets of snow and wind and cold.
Veigue wouldn't have had it any other way. What more did he want than for the rest of his life to all but mirror its beginning?
