[Jan. 9] [FFXII] Inauspicious

Title: Inauspicious
Day/Theme: Jan. 9, 2014 "where it has not rained for days"
Series: Final Fantasy XII
Character/Pairing: Ashe
Rating: PG

For a time it seems that even the seasons are out of sync in the wake of the Archadian occupation. Ashe peers out the tiny slit in the wall that serves as the only window in her small cell, a personal prison in the hideaway Vossler has chosen, at the rolling expanses that should be rain-battered by this time, pelted with drops like missiles and expanding to absorb the bounty of moisture the Wet provides.

The once gold grasses brown and crinkle. The land shrinks as the plants that can sink their taproots deeper do and pull their sustenance from deeper and deeper below. The smaller, less established flora that cannot manage such a feat? They die.

Ashe knows she will also be forced to dig deep.

And her feelings toward that matter may be equally mixed as her response to this turn of the weather. For all the satisfaction there is in this imbalance indicating there is wrong in the world when the proper royal family does not sit Dalmasca's throne, there is an, initially equal but gradually growing stronger, unease and unhappiness to counter it. Too extensive a Dry and her people will suffer.

When the queen comes into her own, she does not desire it to be a barren wasteland and starving people that greet her. Is not the occupation itself reason for suffering enough? There is no need that they be further punished by natural forces. If Faram is a just god, should not the Archadians be the ones who suffer the consequences of their misdeeds?

It has not rained for days where the augurs said it should. Ashe cannot stride out of this garret and take back her kingdom. She cannot do anything to change the weather either.
