[Jan. 8] [Suikoden III] Introspectre

Title: Introspectre
Day/Theme: Jan. 8, 2013 "about doubles and brothers and shadows"
Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Sasarai (& Luc)
Rating: PG

The brother he had once recalled was real all along. There had been lies living in his place as much as anything else. However, that did not prove the lies about Luc had come down from his father. What interaction he had with his most august and holy father did little to inform him as to which new proclamations issued from the chief priest's lips and which were mere bluff from the few privileged to consort privately with the man of the runes.

…but what would cause him to worry about that now in the midst of his personal turmoil? His brother had gone nearly as soon as he'd revealed himself. His shadow, or perhaps more accurately his ghost, fell across the glinting tile and crystal floor; over the frosted window glass; through Sasarai's troubled thoughts.

The ceremonial kiss he had once placed on that face; the touch, meant as much in hope of friendship to be found with a new colleague as in standard ritual fellowship; the invisible wounds where his second soul was ripped from his body (and is that not the truth he needs? that even if it is not much, he is something more than a container, because he lived and breathed and thought as himself without it, even if that self were lesser). Each brush of their bodies lingers on in memory. His face, which is Luc's face (which was made in the image of their father).

He thinks of one, he thinks of the other. Brother and father, shadows and doubles, secrets and lies.

He looks at himself in the mirror and regrets things he doubts he could have changed.
