[Jan. 7] [Rurouni Kenshin] Rewrite
Title: Rewrite
Day/Theme: Jan. 7, 2014 "things you need to forget"

author's comment: double drabble (aaah, I haven't read/watched RK in ages this might be off...)
The feel of Shishio's smile approving the blood he sheds. This is first on the list of what he needs to forget. How good that smile makes him feel. That's second and unattachable from the first.
It's not that he must forget entirely- that would be wrong, against the purpose for which he lives, for which he sets out, wandering- but he has to cast aside the impulse that courses through him at times, still longing to complete the same cycle of action and response.
There is a chill that lingers in him as he passes through the rice fields of Shiga (Omi Province once, Shiga Prefecture now) and he hurries on north, further north. Fukui may welcome him, and Kanagawa, or Sado Island where many an exile's been served. He has spilled too much blood here to be dealt with first (and he fears as well he might be recognized- there is too much he recognizes here himself).
Better to go on ahead, to start smaller, to begin to rewrite himself one small stroke at a time. The simplest kana must proceed the most elaborate kanji.
(eventually to Kyoto again; eventually to Tokyo, where kind folk will welcome him)
