[September 5] [Wolverine & the X-Men] [After the End]
Title: After the End
Day/Theme: September 5 - This mess we’re in is status quo.
Series: Wolverine & the X-Men
Character/Pairing: Pietro & Wanda Maximoff
Rating: PG
“Pietro, you are welcome here, but this is no longer Father's kingdom,” she says.
Pietro knows what is expected of him, and so he stands closer to their father.
“Wanda,” says Father, “don't do this.”
She turns away and gives the order for Link to banish them from Genosha.
And then, she waits.
It's a long, tiring day, full of rebuilding proposals, cabinet shuffles, and several press conferences. There are also several tense démarches from the United States government, and she might have another war on her hands in the near future. And so, she's relieved when she can just retreat to her bedroom and slump against the door.
Pietro is lying on her bed, hands behind his head. His posture is too deceptively casual to be anything other than alert.
“How is he?” she asks.
“Plotting, skulking, blaming everyone but himself,” Pietro says. “You know, the usual.”
“Does he suspect you?” she asks as she moves to sit next to him. His hair is soft and thick beneath her fingers.
They've spent so much time pretending to be at odds, knowing that every conversation could be overheard by Father's spies. This is the first time she's touched him – really touched him, rather than slaps or hexes – in so long that she could cry in relief. Father had never understood, had always tried to separate them.
“He thinks I'm finding the Brotherhood,” Pietro says, eventually, “and I will. But I'm don't think they'll be willing to work for him again.”
“He'll find others,” she says. “He always does.”
“Yes,” Pietro agrees.
